After the citizens of Wellington passed the bond issue in November 2012 to build a new middle school, the waiting game began. It would appear that nothing was happening. In reality, the school board and administration have been hard at work with the Ohio Schools Facility Commission preparing for the construction of Wellington’s new middle school. Below is a tentative timeline for the planning and construction phase of the new middle school.

November 2012: Wellington Exempted Village Schools passes a bond issue for a new middle school to be built on the high school campus.

February 2013: TDA (www.thendesign.com) was selected as the architectural firm to design Wellington’s new middle school.

March 2013: Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) position is posted. Selection process should conclude by the end of May.

April/May 2013: Geographic studies to determine soil stability, wetland determination, property lines, etc. are occurring on-site behind the high school.

May 2013: Teacher/staff engagement planned regarding classroom design/layout.

Summer/Fall 2013: Community engagement planned for design elements of new middle school.

Spring 2014: Ground Breaking!

May 2014: Renewal of the 3 –year emergency levy that was passed in May 2011 will appear on the May ballot.

August 2015: Wellington’s new middle school will welcome the Class of 2024 as fourth graders.
